Starting a diet is easy; staying motivated, on the other hand, is not so simple. The key to successful weight loss is motivation. For some people, finding the motivation to lose weight is simple, but for others, that isn’t the case. If you’re having trouble finding the motivation to start a low carb diet, keep reading for simple tips that will help you stay on the right track.
1. Don’t bite off more than you can chew: A lot of people start off with an unreasonable goal like trying to lose 100 pounds in 3 months. When they are unable to reach that goal, they lose their motivation. In order to stay motivated, set small, easy goals. Instead of trying to lose 50 pounds in two months, try to aim for a weight loss of two pounds each week. When you accomplish those small goals, you’ll feel better about your lifestyle change.
2. Think about your health: Losing weight requires you to change your entire lifestyle, so instead of thinking about losing the weight, think about your health. Instead of counting calories, aim to eat foods that are loaded with nutrients and are generally good for you. When you think about all of the benefits of eating healthy, you’ll be more likely to stay on the right track.
3. Indulge a little: Some people eliminate their favorite foods when starting a low carb diet, but doing so only sets them up for failure. As humans, we want what we can’t have, so the more you limit your favorite foods, the more likely you are to binge on them in the near future. Instead of eliminating your favorite foods forever, just eat them in moderation. Make sure you eat only a little bit, though. Remember, the key to a successful diet is to make it a balanced diet.
4. Get a health partner: You’ll find more motivation if you have a health partner who helps you stay on track. With a partner, you’ll have less chances of cheating your diet because when one of you is about to cave, the other will try to talk some sense in the diet cheater. Plus, a little healthy competition is always good for someone’s motivation levels.
5. Reward yourself: Every time you reach a goal, treat yourself with a reward. Whether it’s a small piece of chocolate or a new pair of shoes, getting a reward, in addition to the benefits of a healthy diet, creates positive reinforcement with healthy eating.
